How to apply for MaineCare

Call or visit the Department of Health & Human Services local office closest to where you live.  Tell the person at the front desk you want to apply for MaineCare.  An eligibility specialist will meet with you to determine your MaineCare eligibility and can answer questions about the MaineCare application process.

Visit the Office of MaineCare Services member website for newsletters, updates, and reports on current projects.

Already a MaineCare member?

Report any name, address, income, or other changes to your eligibility specialist within 10 days of the change.  Contact him or her at your local DHHS office if you have any questions.

MaineCare Card Information

When you qualify as a MaineCare member, you get a permanent, plastic MaineCare card.  Only you can use your card.  It is against the law to let anyone else use it.  Always carry your card with you.  If you do not have it with you, providers may choose not to see you.

If you lose your card, call or stop in to see your eligibility specialist at your local DHHS office.

For further information or assistance, contact your local DHHS office.

Keep your MaineCare card even if you lose your eligibility.
You may qualify for MaineCare again.  If that happens, you’ll be able to use the card.

Member Sign-In

As a MaineCare member, you can log in to your secure member page using your name, date of birth, and the last four digits of your social security number to get in.  You can request a Letter of Creditable Coverage as well as Claim History Reports from this page.  The Letter of Creditable Coverage is proof of your MaineCare coverage.  Claims History Reports show what MaineCare has paid for your health care services.  For more information, see the Online User Guide.

 MaineCare Coverage Changes

Stay up-to-date on changes to benefits covered by MaineCare by going to the MaineCare Member page. There are several letters to MaineCare members explaining the benefit changes under “News.” You can also go to the Policies/Rules webpage for MaineCare’s proposed, adopted, and emergency rules.
